8 1/2 x 11 at Dad's Garage

Jan 18 through Feb 16 Dad's Garage

[Image]Atlanta's most popular and dangerous short play festival is back for it's 4th year, but with a whole new look as eight and a half directors try to beat the clock as their original work pieces are performed! Each piece is only given 11 minutes, when the time is up, the show is done. At Dad's Garage, rules are rules.

What is ARTC's role in all this? We're supplying the half of a director. ARTC will be presenting our piece in just 5 1/2 minutes.

But is that enough of a challenge for us? Not even close. Just to make things more difficult for everyone involved, ARTC will be presenting a variety of short plays, not just one. Right now we have four audio dramas to present with more under consideration.

The current selections are three episodes of the Jane Handley-Page series: "The Shape of Things to Come", "I Am/You Are/He Is: Men Who Morph", "The Jane Handley-Page Show: The Most-Pierced Man in America", and the fourth selection is "The Blair Cream Adventure, Suspense, Mystery, Cowboy and Indian Hour".

But is that enough of a challenge for us? It's getting there, but just to throw another wrench into the works, ARTC will also be rotating cast for these shows. Every night will feature new actors, a new producer, and a new live foley artist to help create the sound effects that are our stock in trade.

8 ½ x 11 will take over Dad's Garage Theatre Company on Jan. 18th and leave us on Feb. 16th Thur-Sat at 8 P.M., Sundays (Feb. 3rd and 10th) at 5 P.M., with an 8 P.M. performance on Monday, Jan. 28th Tickets are $12-$15, for reservations call 404.523.3141.

(Ultimately we added the following scripts to the mix: "Unresolved Mysteries: Phrenotherapy" and "Rory Rammer: Martian Mafia" by Ron N Butler; "Bumpers Crossroads: Hide, a Cow's Outside" by Daniel Taylor; "Bubblewrap" by Chrism Kronick; and assorted commercial parodies by the usual gang of smart-alecks. Of the original scripts named above, "Most-Pierced Man" is by Ron Butler; "Shape of Things to Come" and "Men Who Morph" are by Daniel Taylor.)
